Skateland to Premiere at 2010 Sundance Film Festival in US Dramatic Competition

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

“We call it fiction, but in my mind it’s never really fiction – it’s something honest. It is something borrowed from reality and twisted until it becomes its own exclusive energy. Everyone has their own lives, their own story, their own Skateland, and this happens to be ours.”

- From Director Anthony Burns’ Moving Pictures essay We Call it Fiction’

Skateland is a story that resonates – about making choices, finding your way in life, friends, family and change.

- From Writer/Executive Producer Brandon Freeman’s Hollywood the Write Way interview

Well, its been a long year since we returned from Shreveport uncut 35MM in our hands (well actually in a vault someplace safe) but the journey of Skateland which took us from Austin to Shreveport to Toronto to Napa Valley to Los Angeles and back to Austin again now promises to take us to new places and heights, ones that we could never imagine.

Hold on to your hats, for the indie film biz its wild west again, and anything can happen, keep your eyes open for more info about Freeman Film’s Skateland. There are some amazing films playing at this year’s Sundance, kudos to our fellow Austinites and Bryan Poyser’s Lovers of Hate,  John Cooper, Trevor Groth and the Sundance programming team for the amazing 2010  line up, and of course the cast, crew, Freeman Film, and Skateland’s uber-creative producing team, Brandon Freeman, Heath Freeman, and director Anthony Burns.

Daily Texan invites ATX EMERGE back for SXSW ‘09

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008
3/9/08 PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS at ATX EMERGE
Excerpted from Claire Harlin/ The Daily Texan Staff
Photos by Callie Richmond/ The Daily Texan

This party, sponsored by INDIEPIX, completely dominated Speakeasy lounge and all its glamour March 9, and proved to be not only a great opening to the SXSW festivities but quite possibly the most impressive party for creative-types all year. Aside from the slew of new products launched (oh, and party-goers received a complimentary TV B-Gone remote device that turns off any TV, any time, anywhere) the L.A. hip-hop icon People Under the Stairs put on crazy-kinetic show that’d even get your grandma groovin’. If you weren’t lucky enough to be there, you likely won’t see such an intimate show by these L.A. hip-hop masters again, unless this talented bunch of organizers (Launchpad Creative, Self Assembly Films, Reversal Films, Voodoo Highway Music, Watchmaker Films, Indirect Records, Fiveway Parties, City On Fire) happens to throw another bash next year (fingers crossed!).
