Let a Rock Doc Rock!

April 15th, 2010

In Peter Dekom’s keynote address at the CFTPA summit in Ottawa, he asserts that Hollywood isn’t catering to audiences over 25 who prefer ‘characters’ and ‘stories’ to the under 25’s favored ‘thrills’ and ‘moments.’ How do those that enjoy quality motion pictures that prioritize ‘character’ and ‘story’ support filmmakers that create motion picture that meets their desired tastes?

Enter Kickstarter! We love this tool!

Kickstarter is a useful tool to reach a potentially under-served over 25 audience allowing members of the audience to have their voices heard by supporting projects that have them in mind. This gives our audience a chance to become an engaged community, voting with their hard earned dollars on which projects they wish to support.

It gives us great pleasure to explore this new way of connecting to our community through Nathan Christ’s Echotone.

We have teamed up with the Dark Agency to come up with some great rewards for supporting the project, but we are always looking for better ways to add value to our community’s experience of engaging with the film, so if there is a reward or benefit that you would like to see offered, send us an email, find us on facebook and twitter, or post it in the comments below!

Never Quiet on the Cinematic Front

April 10th, 2010

Wow,

February was the last time we updated our blog…that’s because the last two months have been packed! Here are a few of the highlights!

Reversal Films Announces its plans for the Sustainable Cinema Initiative – Check out an interview with Reversal’s Josh Parker, Victor Moyers, and Nicholas Jayanty in Austin Business Journal.

Then it was off too San Francisco to celebrate a Noise Pop Spotlight on Director Nathan Christ! and participate in a discussion about what it means to be the “Live Music Capital of the World,” and how you even begin to qualify that statement!

And SXSW…always a productive whirlwind.

Skateland sold out the Paramount Theater and the ATX EMERGE, where two of Echotones featured artists, Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears and Sunset, our buddies, Califone, and ATX die-hards braved the rain to celebrate the Texas Premier of Skateland with Skateland stars Ashley, Greene, Shiloh Fernandez, and producer/writers Brandon and Heath Freeman and writer/producer/director Anthony Burns, landing our community event on twitter feeds across the globe.

Check out Mary Tuma’s interview in Community Impact News with several of the ATX EMERGE co-founders, Victor Moyers,  Nicholas Jayanty, and Daniel Perlaky, to learn more about the ATX event series roots and where it’s headed.

Heath Freeman and Ashley Greene at the ATX EMERGE

And most recently, Skateland is the opening night of the Dallas International Film Festival! Many thanks to James Faust in his inaugural year as the Artistic Director of the fest! We wish them the best of luck.

There’s a lot of interesting developments soon to be announced regarding the Sustainable Cinema Initiative, and Echotone’s World Premiere Experience, so keep your eyes close to Echotone’s facebook, the twitter, or right here at ReversalFilms.com.

Dana Falconberry Valentine – excerpted from the Echotone Blog

February 13th, 2010

Dana Falconberry is one of the brightest gems in Austin, TX.

Dana Falconberry Live - still from Echotone

Her songwriting reminds me of Joni Mitchell and her voice recalls Joanna Newsom. Those references are limited, though, as Dana is her own unique force of nature. Just go to one of her shows and you’ll find an entire room full of people watching in rapt silence.

The fact that Dana can’t support herself off of her music should be a crime. That’ll change soon.

Expertly recorded by David Hixon and mixed by Dave Kelly, here are three of Dana’s songs, two of which are in Echotone, download them, share them with fellow music lovers, and be sure to stay tuned, because next week we are leaking a scene from the film featuring of one of these songs.
